Depository Back Office · Core operations

The depository desk, on one set of books.

Demat and remat, pledge and release, DIS handling and corporate action credits — for NSDL and CDSL both, reconciled against the trading ledger instead of alongside it. Account opening through to closure, with the letters, the billing and the GST each step obliges you to produce.

It is not a second system beside the back office. The DP ledger, the client master and the fund transfers are the records the settlement floor is already working from.

What the desk works in

Six screens, and one place they all post to.

A depository participant’s day is a queue of instructions and the paperwork each one owes somebody. These are the surfaces that queue is worked from — and every one of them writes to the ledger the trading side reads.

  • DP ledger and holdings

Live balances, the transaction history behind each one, and a holdings view that moves as instructions settle rather than at the end of the day.

  • One back office, not two

Every DP posting lands in the ledger the trading side already writes to. The recovery, the fund transfer and the client balance need no second entry and no reconciliation between systems.

  • Branch and client portals

Head office, branch and client logins over the same records, with what each can see and do scoped by role and by branch.

  • Account operations

Opening, modification, signature and image updates, freeze and unfreeze, and closure — each one carrying the letter it owes the client out with it.

  • Letters, generated

Modification with DpD1, closure with the statement and the CMR, freeze and unfreeze, demat rejection, welcome. Drawn off the record that triggered them instead of typed into a template.

  • Billing, GST and e-invoicing

Monthly and day-wise billing, GST applied per line to the rule, e-invoices raised, and the recovery posted back against the client ledger.

In detail

What each part actually does.

The outcome first and the operations under it, so every line on this page is something you can ask to be shown rather than something you have to take on trust.

  • Account management

The whole life of a demat account — opened, amended and closed — worked from one screen and one master.

    • Opening, modification and closure
    • Signature and image updates
    • Freeze and unfreeze, account or ISIN-wise
    • A letter raised at every step
  • Transaction processing

Instructions handled as a queue with a state on each one, rather than as a pile of slips on a desk.

    • Demat and remat, request to credit
    • Transmission and off-market transfer
    • DIS issue, capture and slip control
    • Export in the depository’s own format
  • Pledge operations

Pledge, unpledge, invocation and closure — in bulk, because a funding desk does not create them one at a time.

    • Bulk pledge creation from a file
    • Pledge and unpledge processing
    • Status tracked per request
    • Invocation and closure
  • Corporate actions

Bonus, split, dividend and merger credits applied to holdings and carried into the client’s books in the same pass.

    • Corporate action credits to holdings
    • Adjusted against the trading position
    • Client-wise entitlement working
    • The register behind every adjustment
  • Billing and GST

The bill, the tax and the recovery as one run, on the cycle you actually charge — monthly or day-wise.

    • Monthly and day-wise billing
    • GST computed and shown per line
    • E-invoice generation
    • Recovery posted to the back office
  • Reports and registers

The registers an inspection asks for, and the ones the desk reaches for at four o’clock — the same data, two audiences.

    • Transaction and holding registers
    • An in-built report writer
    • Saved and scheduled reports
    • Export to PDF, CSV and Excel
